My wife Liz and I regularly visit West Kirby for a stroll around the marine lake, watching and photographing as the yachts and windsurfers glide by in the setting sun.
However, on this visit, just after the storms of December 2013, we were shocked to see just how much damage the sea front had sustained, with garden walls knocked down and railing torn up. It was quite a sight.
The marine lake too was brim full and overflowing in places, so we couldn't walk all the way round without getting very wet feet.
However, in the face of all that had just happened weather-wise, there was still a lone windsurfer willing to brave the wind and cold out on the lake.
Of course I had to get a photo of him doing his thing, so I lined myself up with this semi-submerged jetty and waited until he was just in the right spot to complete this composition.
We'll have to back again shortly and see how the repairs are going.
What a winter!
