On our way back home to North Wales from a long weekend in England's Lake District my wife Liz and I were determined to wring the last ounce of enjoyment from our mini-break.
So instead of just getting on the M6 motorway and blasting homewards we took a diversion eastwards out of Cumbria and into the Yorkshire Dales along the A684, in the direction of Sedbergh.
Driving along, we found a great viewpoint with a layby where we stopped for a bite to eat and for me to take a few photos of the lovely rolling landscape, dotted with farms and sheep.
This view gives a good idea of the scenery on offer, enhanced by the dramatic storm lighting as heavy dark clouds filled the sky over brooding hills with the fields in the foreground still brightly lit by the summer sun.
