4.00am seems a little early to be getting up while enjoying a weekend at my daughter's family caravan at Abersoch on the Llyn Peninsula, but the lure of seeing the dawn and sunrise over the mountains of Snowdonia away to the northeast was too great a pull to keep me in bed.
A brisk 20 minute stroll found me at my pre-chosen spot on the beach, complete with groynes and incoming tide to add to the spectacle, with the sky just starting to colour up in anticipation of the day to come.
Actually, the day to come turned into one of clouds and rain, but the three hours either side of sunrise were just glorious, and well worth the effort of getting out of bed for.
Eventually I stopped taking photos for this timelapse when my tripod became submerged by the tide, and I strolled back to the caravan, full of contentment, to be greeted by Liz with a mug of coffee and some breakfast.
What a way to start the day!
