The normally crowded beach at Alcudia Bay on the Spanish island of Mallorca, is wonderfully deserted in the hour before dawn as I set up my good old Canon 5D by the jetty to record the stills I need to make this timelapse video.
It's a far cry from my usual pre-dawn haunts in North Wales, and I'm enjoying the feeling of actually being warm while up at this hour, dressed in tee shirt and shorts rather than the multiple layers required to survive on a welsh hillside.
As the sky lightens to the east a few hardy tourists put in an appearance in anticipation of the sunrise, and the local dog walkers and joggers start to appear, looking at me kind of strange as they pant by.
Rather more quickly than I'm used to at my normal latitude of 53 degrees north, the sun arrives at the horizon and families take turns to photograph themselves at the end of jetty, little knowing that they're also starring in my video.
The sun rises quickly and the heat starts to build as I pack up and start the trek back to our holiday apartments.
The rest of my family won't be stirring for an hour or so yet - shame for them, missing the best part of the day.
