The promise of a lovely clear evening a few days ago was all the encouragement my wife Liz and I required to head off after tea to the interior of Wales to visit the beautiful and secluded Alwen Reservoir.
Just down the road from its much more famous and heavily visited neighbour, Llyn Brenig, Alwen is an oasis of calm and tranquility, with bird song and the gentle lapping of wavelets being the only sounds you can hear.
In fact, the clacking of my camera's mirror every six seconds as I shot the stills for this sunset video seemed positively rude, I'm just glad there was no one else there to be disturbed by it!
Sunset was at around 9.40pm, so we had plenty of time for a walk along the wooded paths by the side of the lake before I hunkered down on the dam (a nice stable platform I trust!) and pointed my camera up the length of the reservoir towards the setting sun.
At this time of year the sun is setting as far to the north as it will go, which put sunset nicely in line with the length of the reservoir.
Hopefully, if we return in winter the sun will be setting over the dam - now that would be worth a trip!
