The 80th D-Day anniversary of 6th June 2024 was marked around the country at dusk with a chain of lit beacons.
And one of the best beacons on the north Wales coast, near where my wife Liz and I live, is at the abandoned Bettisfield colliery site at Bagillt.
This magnificent beacon, welded from steel in the form of the welsh dragon by local blacksmith Peter Carlyle, is the focal point for the local community at such times, and provides a stunning fiery spectacle against the darkening skies.
This video catches a little of the emotive force of the lit beacon, but you really need to be there to appreciate it fully.
