It's that time of year again, the couple of weeks either side of midsummer when the sunset occurs as far north as it's going to get at my latitude of 53°N.
This short window of time has the sun setting directly up the Conwy estuary on the North Wales coast, when viewed from the Deganwy side of the road bridge spanning the river to Conway castle on the far side of the water.
This was my second attempt at creating a time lapse sequence showing the this sunset in 2017.
My first attempt, while quite dramatic, ended when the sun sank into a bank of cloud on the horizon, so I was very pleased to find clear skies for this second attempt, which worked pretty much as I'd hoped, with the setting sun tracking across the frame and passing over the top of the yachts moored in the mouth of the estuary before finally sinking cleanly into the horizon, far out in the Irish Sea.
A further nessesary condition was a windless evening, allowing me to use my long and heavy 100-400mm zoom lens which tends to twitch around in the slightest breeze, leading to a shaky video.
So needless to say, I drove home very satisfied indeed from this photo shoot, having witnessed a lovely event in a beautiful location, and been able to successfully film it as well.
I love it when a plan finally comes together!
