With the coast of northwest Cornwall being only a short drive away from our holiday cottage near Bude, my wife Liz and I took full advantage of the changeable September weather to enjoy watching and filming some dramatic sunsets from various coastal beauty spots during our two week stay in this lovely part of the world.
With its western facing bay, Crackington Haven proved to one of our favourite sunset locations, with the sun setting slap bang in the middle of two large cliffs over a stunning beach.
On this particular evening the tide was at its highest at sunset, and with a stiff onshore breeze I found I had to position my camera quite a way back from the breaking waves in order to avoid the steady build up of salt spray on the camera's optics which would have ruined this time lapse shoot.
But fortunately for me Crackington Haven had the additional attraction of a small river that flowed directly onto the beach, giving me a reflective surface at the bottom of my composition that would have been dead space otherwise.
As the evening progressed and the sun set (no green flash this time!) I kept on filming in the hope that the high and low level clouds scudding by overhead would pick up some gorgeous warm light from the sun, now below the horizon.
Well I wasn't disappointed, as about a quarter of an hour after sunset the high level cirrus clouds turned a vibrant pink for a few minutes only, providing a suitably dramatic and beautiful end to our evening on the coast.
