During our two weeks spent exploring the eastern half of the island of Crete there were a few places my wife Liz and I kept coming back to because of the sheer loveliness of the scenery.
One such was the Kolpos Mirambellou (Bay of Mirabello) and the seaside town of Agios Nikolaos.
With a stunning location by the sea, surrounded by high cliffs and backed by the Orosira Dikti mountains, we enjoyed very much our drives along the coastal road, right from Plaka in the north to Mohlos on the far side of the bay.
This view of Agios Nikolaos is from the side of the road that runs down from the seaside resort of Elounda, and having seen this view earlier in the afternonn I made a point of returning here just after sunset to capture this time lapse video of twilight fading to night as the lights of the town and harbour grew in strength and the natural light of day fled westwards.
