Living in beautiful North Wales I have access to some amazing natural scenery - mountains, lakes, forests, coastline and so on.
But North Wales also has an enduring industrial legacy, including coal mining, steel works, and more recently, power generation including solar, wind and gas.
Nowhere is this legacy more in evidence than along the banks of the river Dee estuary at Connah's Quay, with the tidal waters bounded by the old British Steel works on one side and the Connah's Quay gas fired powerplant on the other.
Completing the view is an elegant new suspension bridge, and although I normally don't photograph industrial landscapes I make an exception for this particular scene.
I've previously made a couple of time lapse videos from here, catching the sunset and dusk over the bridge and chimney stacks of the powerplant as night falls.
But on this occasion I decided to catch the arrival of the dawn light at the start of the day, as the artificial lights on the bridge and buildings gradually gave way to the natural light of day, all reflecting in the moving waters of the river as the tide ebbed away.
A good decision, as the view proved just as entrancing at the start of the day as it does at the end.
Who says industry is ugly!
