When choosing a location for our family holiday over in Ireland I was very careful to emphasise the importance of a north facing location, on top of a beach, on the west coast, so I could get up and photograph dawn and sunset.
Of course, I didn't explain my choice of location in quite those terms to the rest of my family (wife, various children and grandchildren), but they seemed quite happy with where we ended up, at Smethwick Bay on the beautiful Dingle Peninsula.
This is the view that greeted me on the one clear morning we had as I climbed out of bed to greet the dawn.
Across the bay, to the northeast, lie the Brandon Mountains, behind which the sun rose into a clear blue sky.
Quite rare for this part of the world, and even more enjoyable because of that.
Having shot the stills for this video over the course of an hour and a half or so, I then went back to bed - how good is that!
