With a still photo taken every two seconds over a forty minute period, this timelapse video shows the behaviour of a standing wave cloud that formed over Brandon Mountain on the Dingle Peninsula on Ireland's west coast.
Our holiday cottage was right by the sea and this was the view from the patio, so it was easy to wake up at first light, put a brew on and go out to photograph the dawn arriving to the north east.
This particular morning there was a great cloud formation over Brandon Mountain, with the rising air condensing into a standing wave, underlit by the rising sun.
Although the cloud seemed stationary in real time, the speeded up timelapse (fifty times normal speed) shows a different story, with the cloud looking like it was spinning like a top on the mountain's peak.
