They say 'Bad weather makes good photos', and there's a lot of truth in that. But I would say that 'Bad weather makes excellent time lapse videos'.
There's something quite mesmerising about watching clouds, rain and shafts of sunlight race across the landscape at high speed. What would take an hour in real time can be compressing into a 30 second or so clip with high drama.
This is such a video, shot overlooking the Brandon Mountains on the Dingle Peninsula on Ireland's west coast. I took the stills for this video over just a ten minute period in-between rain showers, with a two second interval between exposures. This means that at 25 frames per second, what you're seeing here is speeded up by fifty times.
The interplay of dark and light as the clouds race along is quite beautiful, and well worth ten minutes of my time on a typical west coast of Ireland day.
