A typical soft west coast of Ireland day saw low cloud and mist over the entire scene, with not a hint of sun anywhere.
Hopeless for grand scale landscape photography but not so for a time lapse video.
The difference is the fourth dimension - time.
Speeded up to fifty times normal speed, the scene that looked completely bland, flat and uninteresting in real time takes on a magical quality in the medium of time lapse as clouds and mist form and break over the slopes of the Brandon Mountains in a delicate vapour ballet.
