It was the last evening of the week long holiday my wife Liz and I had spend exploring the beautiful scenery in County Donegal on the atlantic west coast of the Republic of Ireland, and I was determined to make the most of it.
The west facing coast of County Donegal, with its pristine beaches and dramatic topography, had proved to be a visual delight, and none more so than during the hour before and after sunset.
So I was out at the coast almost every evening, capturing time lapse videos of the sunset in a variety of weather conditions, mostly cloud, fog, rain and wind!
But this last evening was different, the heavens were clear of the heavy, low clouds that normally blow in from over the atlantic, and instead we had a light breeze and just some high, wispy clouds adding a bit of colour and interest to the sky.
So I decided to make this last sunset photoshoot a 'full on' affair, with two cameras and tripods working at the same time, my trusty Canon 6DMK2 taking hundreds of still images with a wide angle lens and my newly aquired Canon 250D set up wth a long focal length zoom lens to take 4K video of the sun sinking below the gentle hills of Cruit Island, as seen from the beach at Carrickfinn, just behind Donegal International Airport.
Well, the evening's photoshoot turned out even better that I expected, with both cameras capturing a different aspect of the lovely sunset and twilight skies, which retained colour and interest long after the sun had disappeared behing Cruit Island.
And it was great fun blending the two media streams together once back home to create this time lapse video of a lovely final evening in a wonderful part of the world.
