Iceland must be one of the most interesting and active geological places on earth.
My wife Liz and I were fortunate enough to be able to visit and see some of the amazing geothermal features dotted around the island during the course of a two week cruise in the summer of 2016.
One place we went to see was the smoking and steaming volcanic plains at Hverarond in the north of the island, accessible by road from the port of Akureyri.
During our visit we were treated to the sights, sounds and smells of steaming geothermal vents and pools of bubbling mud which we were able to approach very closely.
Although I took several still photos of these spectacles, this video shows the volcanic activity in a more dramatic way.
