Arriving at our hotel at Taurito on the south coast of Gran Canaria in the Seychelle islands for a week's winter sunshine, I was delighted to find that the view out over the resort from the side of the swimming pool was perfect to catch the sunset over the Atlantic Ocean.
So on the second evening of our stay I set up my full time lapse gear of camera, tripod and intervalometer amongst the sunloungers, pointing southwest overlooking the hotels on the far side of Taurito Bay to see what would develop around sunset and on into twilight.
At this latitude, a lot closer to the equator than I'm used to back home in North Wales, the sunset happened a lot quicker than I was expecting, with the twilight turning to full on night much faster than normal for me as well.
That aside, Liz and I sat and watched entranced as the underlit cloudscape played out over our heads, followed by the transition from dusk to night as the lighting emphasis changed from natural sky illumination to the artificial lights of the resort hotels below us on the far cliffs.
This time lapse video has speeded up this sunset from an actual duration of an hour and a quarter to just around 30 seconds, revealing the beauty of the changing light on this lovely evening.
