One of the many highlights of the week long stay that my wife Liz and I spent exploring Lanzarote in the Canary Islands in February 2018 was an afternoon and evening we spent on the Altantic coast at Famara.
A beautiful unspoilt location, great beachside restaurant and dramatic coastline pounded by huge Atlantic rollers made this a very special place indeed.
Wanting to wring the maximum amount of enjoyment out of our visit, after tea in the restaurant we drove along the unmade coast road to a quiet spot giving a view to the southwest and an unfolding dramatic sunset over the volcanic cones just inland behind Famara itself.
With a stiff breeze driving waves onto the beach covered in black volcanic boulders, worn smooth by the endless pounding of the Atlantic the conditions were ideal for a time lapse video shoot.
So wrapped up in every layer of clothing I possessed (it was pretty chilly by this time) I stood by my tripod mounted camera for the best part of an hour and a half, adjusting exposure as the sun set, daylight faded to night and the lights of Famara came on, sparkling like jewels anlong the far coastline.
Surely one of the most beautiful places we saw during our brief visit to Lanzarote, and if we ever return to the island then this is one spot we'll certainly revisit.
