For a couple of weeks either side of midsummer up here at a latitude of 53°N on the north Wales coast, the sun sets pretty much bang on to the northwest.
Which means that there's a short window of opportunity to watch and film the sunset from the North Shore promenade at Llandudno.
What makes this view special is the looming silhouette of the Great Orme limestone headland which defines the western edge of Llandudno Bay, and adjacent to which the sun travels downwards towards the Irish Sea.
So my wife Liz and I made a few trips to catch this view during the summer of 2026, but there was ony one occasion where we saw the sun sink all the way down to the horizon, and this wasn't it!
Instead we were treated to a lovely display of warmly backlit clouds as sunset approached, and aft the sun had set we enjoyed a lovely display of underlighting in the higher clouds for a few minutes before the light and colour finally ebbed away at the end of another day.
