My wife Liz and I were determined to squeeze the maximum enjoyment out of our summer Saturday tour around Snowdonia and the North Wales coast.
So just before sunset we pulled off the A55 and parked up on the promenade at Llanfairfechan to watch the light show that was developing in the skies above us.
With a cold front moving in off the Atlantic there were both low and high altitude clouds moving rapidly overhead, catching the light of the setting sun in a subtle, yet beautiful display of colour, highlight and shadow.
In addition to the cloud action, the tide had just turned and the vast expanse of sand that makes up the beach at Llanfairfechan was rapidly appearing from under the waves, so conditions were pretty good for a potential time lapse shoot.
So while Liz sat in the warmth of the car, crocheting away and watching the light show, I went down onto the concrete slipway that had just emerged from the waves and spent a happy, but cold, hour hunched over my camera making exposure adjustments as the light slowly faded from the heavens.
The end result was well worth getting cold for, with the time lapse sequence showing a lovely transition from day to dusk.
