My pre-dawn excursion to the Loggerheads Country Park, near my home in Mold, North Wales, to photograph a time lapse of the full moon setting over the Clywdian hills, had turned into quite a busy morning.
Having finished shooting the moonset to the west, and with half an hour to spare before having to start my normal working day, I looked over my shoulder to see how the sunrise was developing behind me to the east.
Loggerheads Country Park is quite heavily forested and the view to the east was bounded by a a stand of trees, forming a kind of bowl shape in which wispy clouds were glowing in the light of the rising sun like some strange cocktail.
So it was a no-brainer for me to swivel my camera through 180° and spend the rest of my free time capturing the ethereal play of form and light going on above me in the hundreds of still images needed to make this time lapse.
The walk down through the trees back to my car for the drive home was just lovely as well, listening to the sounds of the woods coming to life at the start of a new day.
