Admiral Lord Nelson described the Menai Straits, separating the Isle of Anglsey from the North Wales coast, as one of the most dangerous navigable stretches of water in the world.
And the most dangerous part, lying between the Thomas Telford suspension bridge and the Robert Stephenson Britannia Bridge, known as the 'Swellies', is shown here in this time lapse video on a rising tide.
Speeding up the flow somewhat shows just how convoluted the currents are as the tide races between the two bridges.
Not to be trifled with by the unwary or unskilled.
