There are many beautiful views around the Snowdonia National Park in North Wales, and one of the loveliest is this vista looking out over Nant Gwynant and Llyn Gwynant, nestling below the high peaks of the Snowdon Horseshoe.
It was a glorious day in late July 2020 when my wife Liz and I stopped here to admire the view, with a stiff breeze blowing broken clouds across the heavens, casting moving patches of sunlight and shadow over the undulating landscape below.
Well I wasn't going to let an opportunity like this go by, so it was out with the camera and tripod to record the hundreds of still images needed to create this time lapse featuring those moving patches of light and shadow.
My only technical problem was the extreme contrast range between the bright sky and relatively dark shadowed landscape.
Normally I would fit a neutral density graduated filter to my camera's lens to darken the sky somewhat, but this only works with a reasonably straight skyline, which I didn't have here.
So instead I had to rely on the generous dynamic range of my Canon DSLR's RAW files and the power of Adobe Lightroom to pull details out of almost black shadow areas in order to create this edit.
The final result is as close as I can get using technology to what my God designed eyes and brain actually experienced.
