Partial Solar Eclipse Video #1

The story behind this video

Early June 2021 found my wife Liz and I on holiday in South Ayreshire, Scotland, and it was one of those rare 'right time, right place' occurences that make the life of the outdoor photographer so interesting and enjoyable.

It just so happened that there was a partial solar eclipse due on the morning of 10th June, and Scotland was the best place in the UK to see it from.

I started filming the eclipse with a sun filter fitted to my 100-400mm zoom lens, but with broken clouds moving rapidly across the face of the sun that just didn't work, with the viewfinder going completely black for seconds at a time.

So it was off with the filter and with the aperture closed up as far as it would go and the shutter speed set as fast as possible, I was able to shoot this video, not only showing the partially eclipsed sun but also with enough light to light up the surrounding clouds as well, making for a very appealing effect.

To round off the video I added some suitable backing music, courtesy of Unicorn Heads via the YouTube audio library, and I'm very pleased with the final outcome.

Right time, right place and, of course, the right kit!
