Driving home along the A55 North Wales coast expressway after a walk though the salt marshes at Llanfairfechan with my wife Liz, we noticed that the overcast sky had a break on the western horizon, just starting to colour up with the warm light of the setting sun.
So we pulled off the A55 at Penmaenmawr to see how the sunset might develop.
There's a huge acreage of sand at low tide at Penmaenmawr, permanently wetted from the freshwater runoff that empties onto the beach, and this mini-delta was reflecting the ever changing light from the skies above in a beautiful display of colours and patterns.
No further excuse needed then, so it was out with the camera and tripod to capture a few minutes of loveliness in this time lapse video, standing in the wet sand watching in awe as the shutter clicked away next to me.
All too soon the light and colour had faded from the twilight sky and it was time to pack away and continue our journey homewards.
But what a great way to wring the last drop of enjoyment out of an already special day!
