In the October of 2021 my wife Liz and I spent a few days exploring the Isle of Man, a tiny island situated in the middle of the Irish Sea between the mainland UK and Ireland.
Despite rather damp and cloudy conditions we had a great time driving, walking and electric tramming around the many beauty spots and points of interest.
The hotel where we were staying was right next to the sea front at Ramsey, a port on the east facing coast of the island, so a perfect spot to catch a sunrise out over the Irish Sea.
So on the first morning of our stay, with a favourable weather forecast, I was up and out well before sunrise, walking along the promenade towards the harbour entrance.
With my gear laden Lowepro on my back, and my Photogragher's Ephemeris app live on my mobile, I was able to quickly find this ideal spot on the breakwater wall and set up to start shooting the 1,000+ still images needed to create this time lapse video as night transitioned to morning through the various stages of twilight until the sun rose majestically between the two light posts on the ends of the twin harbour breakwater walls.
But just before sunrise I decided on a quick change of viewpoint to catch the rising sun against the light post in silhouette of the far end of the breakwater.
In the end I spent two and a half hours stood on the breakwater photographing away, which was just a wonderful time watching the light changes.
But I was certainly glad of the 'full english breakfast included' offer that was part of our package deal!
