Rhos-on-Sea Timelapse #1

The story behind this video

August 10th 2014 saw the rising of the largest 'mega moon' for quite some time, with the full moon coinciding with the moon being at its perigee (closest point to earth).

This was a photographic opportunity not to be missed, especially as there was an exceptionally high tide due on the same evening, which made conditions ripe for a time lapse video showing the moon rising and the tide coming in at the same time.

But where to go to combine the incoming tide with the rising moon, while showing some interesting static foreground and background elements as well.

After an earlier scout around, Liz and I settled on creating our time lapse video from the promenade at Rhos-on-Sea, on the North Wales coast.

This was a brilliant location, with a jetty jutting out into the sea, just in the right place to get covered with the tide, and with the headland at the far end of Colwyn Bay in the background for the moon to rise over.

Just as important was the easy parking, cafe and toilets close by - very necessary if you're stuck in one spot for two hours while your camera's clicking away!
