South Stack Time Lapse #5

The story behind this video

South Stack lighthouse on the beautiful Isle of Anglesey, just off the North Wales coast, is one of the many coastal locations in this part of the world that I never tire of visiting.

Although the cliffs and lighthouse are always in the same place, the lighting and weather conditions are constantly varying, and you never know what visual delights await if you decide to spend some time there.

I shot the stills for this particular time lapse video in early March, with the sun setting just a little south of west and lining up perfectly with the lighthouse from my convenient overlook by the car park.

It had been a really hazy afternoon, with a light sea mist billowing around taking the edge off the sunshine during Liz's and my afternoon walks along some of our favourite headlands and bays.

The haze had me excited, as I reckoned that it could provide some lovely lighting conditions at sunset, so with about an hour to go we drove up to South Stack to watch the show.

I only just arrived and started shooting stills in time, as the mist was already turning golden as we parked up.

What a show!

The sun set in a orange-gold haze, followed by a spectactular twilight light show as the high clouds cuaght the last of the rays from the sun, now below the western horizon.

We stayed put until pretty much all the colour had bled from the sky and the stars were coming out, finally packing up and heading down the mountain to valley for siome much needed fish and chips.
