I've tried on several occasions to film the transition from night to day from this location in the Pen Barras car park at the foot of Moel Famau in the Clwydian range of hills in North East Wales, but up till now I'd always been thwarted, either by the weather not playing ball or for technical reasons, such as my camera lens fogging up at inopportune moments.
This is a great spot for watching the dawn, as the 'V' shaped valley between the hills of Foel Ffenli and Moel Famau looks just like a bowl being slowly filled with light as night passes through the various stages of twilight and on into sunrise and early morning.
I especially like the way the colour temperature of the light changes from the deep blue of twilight, contrasted with the orange glow of streetlights from the town of Mold to the east, to the warm glow of pre-dawn as the rising sun strikes the underside of the clouds and on to the more neutral colours of natural daylight.
Our eye/brain system compensates a great deal for these changes so they're not so apparent when just observed naturally, but with my camera's white balance setting fixed on daylight the change in light temperature is more more vivid in the images I took to make this video.
