Local knowledge is a great thing for an outdoor photographer, like knowing at what time of year the sun will set in a particular direction.
This short time lapse video was filmed from a very chilly spot in January at the top of the Great Orme, that impressive chunk of limestone that juts out into the Conwy estuary at the western end of Llandudno Bay on the North Wales coast.
Being January, the sun sets quite a way to the southwest (we are at a latitude of 53 degrees north here, so there's quite a marked difference in the position of the sunset throughout the year) which puts it nicely next to the headlands of Penmaenmawr and Llanfairfechen just down the coast aways.
Add some lovely cloud action, which is the norm for this part of the world (Arizona may be warmer, but we've got the weather!) and you've got the potential for some dramatic photography or time lapse action.
Local knowledge also helps when it comes to comfort, for although it was freezing cold up on top of the Great Orme, I actually filmed this sequence while sitting in my car with the heater on, parked just a couple of metres away from the prime camera location!
