A rare cloudy sky at sunrise over the Atlantic ocean, looking southeast from Golf del Sur on the southern coast of Tenerife in the Canary Islands, gave me a bit of light relief from the endless blue skies and super-bright dawn sunlight my wife Liz and I had enjoyed up to now.
We were spending two weeks in February 2025 exploring the island's volcanic landscapes, but every morning I would make a point of getting up before sunrise to set up my camera on our balcony and enjoy the cool early morning air while filming the arrival of the sun for another day.
But on this morning, with heavy cloud cover streaming by overhead, I wasn't sure if I'd see a sunrise at all.
So instead I decided to focus my photographic time lapse efforts on the scene played out at this time every morning around the pools at our Santa Barbara resort, as the early start cleaning crew got to work mopping and polishing before any of the residents appeared on the sun loungers.
And in the end I did get to see a partial sunrise though a small gap in the clouds along the horizon.
Just like a typical cloudy morning in Wales, but a lot warmer!
