The western coast of Tenerife in the Canary Islands, north of the town of Los Gigantos, is a geological wonderland of volcanic rock, with huge cliffs towering several hundred feet straight up out of the Atlantic ocean.
Slightly inland from the coast itself there's a winding road that snakes around the tortured terrain, which is where my wife Liz and I headed in our hire car to catch the sunset out over the sea.
We were nearing the end of our week long stay on Tenerife during January 2020, and were determined to wring the last ounce of enjoyment from our time here, hence the drive out into the relative wilderness of the island's northwestern corner.
And we weren't disappointed, as a stunning sunset, dusk and twilight developed over the island of La Gomera out on the western horizon, with a cresent moon and the planet Venus following the sun down towards the darkening waters.
We managed to find a rare parking spot looking through a 'V' shaped gap in those huge cliffs which made for a great frame for the ensueing light show, all faithfully captured in hundreds of still images taken over nearly two hours of filming.
A lovely way to start drawing our holiday to a close.
