A stroll around the Marine Lake at West Kirby on the Wirral is quite a regular evening treat for my wife Liz and I.
This is a place of big skies, and a great place to see a spectacular sunset from, weather permitting.
Well the weather certainly played ball this particular evening, with sunset providing a colourful backdrop to a yacht race that was just winding up as we completed our circumnavigation of the sea wall surrounding the lake itself.
This was a great opportunity for a time lapse video, showing the yachts returing to their moorings after the race, with the sun setting behind them.
Unfortunately though, the action was happening at the far end of the lake from where we were parked, camera in boot, so I had to jog the length of the lake to retreive my car and camera gear and get back in time to catch the yachts while still on the water.
Well I just made it, and half an hour of shooting stills yielded this video of yachts trying to make it back across the lake under conditions of no wind.
Indeed, conditions were so calm that I had the added bonus of reflections in the still waters of the lake, which is quite rare in my experience.
So all in all it was well worth gasping and panting my way for a quarter mile or so to capture the event.
