The end of a very busy weekend found myself and my wife Liz taking a couple of hours' break with a stroll around the Marine Lake at West Kirby on a lovely Sunday evening.
We finished up with a coffee while we sat and watched the cloud play over the lake as the sun dropped towards the horizon behind us.
West Kirby is one of those places that seems to attract spectacular sunsets, but on this occasion the sky to the west was pretty much cloud free and relatively uninteresting.
So after taking a number of stills featuring the clouds and lakeside jetty I fixed my camera on my tripod and set it off for half an hour recording the movement of the striking clouds to the southeast.
I was only a short way into the sequence of stills when unexpected things started to happen.
First of all, a small drone started flying around in front of us, but it was too small and moving too fast to show up on the video.
Next a canoeist paddled from the far end of the lake right up to the jetty featured in this video.
And finally a couple started playing 'fetch' with their dog in and out of the water right in front of me.
So not a very 'clean' time lapse showing cloud movement, but I didn't mind, as all these extra happenings only served to add some extra interest to the final few seconds of the clip, and showed some typical activity that you would see any day at this spot.
After thirty minutes of shooting the clouds started dissipating and it was time to pack up and head home, thoroughly chilled after our hectic weekend.
