Why is it only mad photographers and dog walkers are to be found on beaches at 5.20am on a beautiful morning such as this?
Standing on the beach as the sun rises, with only the mournful cry of the gulls for company is, for me, one of life's rich pleasures, and I thank God that I'm able to enjoy experiences like this on a regular basis.
This particular beach is at Abersoch, on the Llyn Peninsula, and my wife Liz and I were there spending the weekend in the company of our family on a local caravan site.
A twenty minute walk got me from the caravan to this spot well before sunrise, and here I stayed for about an hour and a half, shooting stills for my timelapse video, of which this image was one.
I got back to the caravan just in time for breakfast, refreshed in body, mind and soul after my early morning excursion, ready to face the more 'normal' family beach activities.
