During our two week holiday in September 2019, spent exploring the beautiful countryside and coastlines of Devon and Cornwall, my wife Liz and I took a day to explore the magnificent Dartmoor National Park in South Devon.
Heading eastwards from the market town of Tavistock onto Dartmoor proper we soon came to the small village of Postbridge.
As we were driving through Liz spotted a rather unusual structure in a field to the side of the road.
Intrigued, we turned around and parked up in a layby by the side of the road and got out to investigate.
But before we even got back to the village my attention was grabbed by this lovely arrangement of overgrown field and dilapidated old wooden gate, leaning drunkenly off its mooring post and about to collapse.
It was the work of just a few seconds to snap this tableau as we walked along, heading back to Postbridge to take a closer look at what Liz had glimpsed through the car window.
And what was this mystery object?
It turned out to be an old stone clapper bridge, apparently the most photographed bridge in Dartmoor, and if Liz hadn't been on the ball we would have driven straight past!
