The most popular and well known body of water in the Lake District, Cumbria, England, this is Lake Windermere, pictured as dusk was falling at the end of a beautiful summer's day.
My wife Liz and I were driving back south from a day spent exploring the northern reaches of the Lake District, and decided to drop down to the shores of Windermere to catch the evolving twilight colours over the lake.
But curiously enough, there's only a few places around Windermere that you can actually reach the water's edge, with Bowness being one of the most popular and touristic.
So that's where we headed, parking up right by the lake which made it easy for me to capture this long exposure of the light fading over the mountains to the northwest, using a convenient jetty to draw the viewer's eye through the composition while rendering the slightly choppy water as smooth as silk with a ten second exposure.
A lovely way to end the end, so long as you could keep the midges at bay!
