Surely one of the most spectacular views in the world.
This is part of what you see looking west from an altitude of nearly 12,000 feet above sea level, close to the volcanic cone of Mount Teide in the Canary Islands.
Ever since my wife Liz and I first visited Tenerife many years ago, a ride to the summit of Mount Teide on the Teleferico del Teide cablecar has been on our list of things we really wanted to do.
And during a week long winter sun break in Janaury 2020 we finally braved the crazy car parking arrangements and rode the cablecar high up to the upper station, only to be amazed at the scenery stretched out below us.
This view shows part of the enormous and ancient caldera of the Las Canadas volcano, with its blasted lava landscape providing a kaleidoscope of rich ochre toned geological formations, set against the deep blue of the high altitude sky.
Looking further out over the Atlantic ocean you can see the island of La Gomera, seemingly floating above the waters on a thin veil of mist.
Wow! No wonder the Tiede National Park is Spain's most visited natural attraction!
