My wife Liz and I had spent an amazing day driving around the volcanic landscapes of the Teide National Park during our week long winter break in the Canary Islands, and towards sunset as we were driving away from the Mount Teide volcano we came past the world reknowed observatory, now dedicated to observations of the sun due to the increasing light pollution from the growing coastal resorts.
So of course, I stopped in a convenient layby to take a final few photos, with the white buildings of the observatory standing out in strak contrast to the deep blue of the high altitude sky.
A fitting end to a wonderful day.
