A cool, clear October dawn over the Clwydian Range Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and I'm up early and on hand to watch and photograph as the vivid colours of twilight play across bands of cloud, heralding the sun's approach to the eastern horizon.
My chosen spot to enjoy this spectacle is the Pen Barras car park, nestled in the saddle between the twin peaks of Moel Famau and Feol Fenlli and giving a great view down the 'V' shaped valley towards the approaching sunrise.
And it's that 'V' shape that makes this particular spot so attractive to me as the opposing slopes, rendered as a black silhouette, form a great frame at the bottom of my composition, into whch the light and colours in the sky above pour like wine into a glass.
A beautiful start to the day like this deserves a bit of extra effort, so instead of just taking a few still images of the dawn in its various stages I shot hundreds of frames, each just a few seconds apart, in order to create my Clwydians Dawn Timelapse #1 video.
This image is one of those hundreds of exposures, showing the the dawn colours at their richest, just a few minutes before sunrise.
