Built by King Edward the First in the 13th century to keep the unruly welsh in their place, the medieval castle at Conwy is one of the jewels in the crown of the North Wales coast.
Sitting on the banks of the river Conwy as it empties into the Irish Sea, and approached by a road and railway bridge over the estuary, the castle makes for a dramatic photograph.
My favourite time to visit and capture some images is around dusk, when the lights of the castle come on, slowly becoming brighter and brighter against the darkening twilight sky.
This photo was taken just after the lights of the castle had been switched on, with the sky relatively bright compared to the landscape beneath, but still needing a two second exposure to allow shadow detail under the bridge to be visible.
