Clwydians Sunrise Timelapse #3

A cold winter's morning in mid-January 2022 and I'm stood near the summit of Foel Fenlli, an iron age hill fort in the Clwydian Range Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty near my home in northeast Wales.

I'd made the sweaty and breathtaking climb up this steep hill (those iron age folk must have been tough!) in order to create a time laspe of the first full moon of the year (known as the 'Wolf Moon') as it set over the Vale of Clwyd, stretched out to the west beneath me. ...Read more

A bracing winter's drive through the snow dusted mountains of Snowdonia in North Wales culminated for my wife Liz and myself at the famous coastal town of Caernarfon, just a few minutes before sunset.

With some breaks in the clouds allowing beams of golden sunlight to sweep across the sky, I was in somewhat of a hurry to get to a location with a southwesterly view so I could capture this time lapse video of that lovely sunset. ...Read more

It was the winter solstice, and with the weather forecast promising broken cloud in the pre-dawn morning hours it was an ideal opportunity for me to tick off one of my 'bucket list' time lapse shoots.

South Stack Sunset Timelapse #1

A weather window of just a few hours in early December 2021 had my wife Liz and I scrambling into the car, desperate to get out of the house after having been cooped up for seemingly forever under almost constant rainfall.

Checking the forecast, things seem to get better the further west we could get (west is almost always best for us!), so we headed out along the North Wales coast towards the (sometimes) sun-kissed Isle of Anglesey.

Karst limestone rock formations on the Great Orme, Llandudno, North Wales

Taking the road less travelled, my wife Liz and I took the newly renovated path along the side of the Great Orme limestone headland on the North Wales coast at Llandudno.

Starting from the less popular West Shore we climbed the footpath westwards towards the summit, and were soon immersed in a fantastic landscape of eroded karst limestone.

Of course, it helped to have some sunshine for our excursion, which we thorougly enjoyed, never having hiked this particular path before.

What a find!

Beech woods in Autumn, Loggerheads Country Park, North Wales

One of the autumn treats my wife Liz and I enjoy is a walk through the beech woods at Loggerheads Country Park, near our home in Northeast Wales and part of the Clwydian Range Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).

On a sunny afternoon the autumnal beech leaves glow in the light as we stroll along the woodland paths coated with nature's gold.

And then the first of the autumn storms blows through and the trees are stripped bare, awaiting the onset of winter.

Lily Pond at Bodnant Gardens, North Wales

Being members of the National Trust has been a great retirement investment for myself and my wife Liz, as whenever the weather is nice we can head off to one of our local stately homes and gardens for a couple of hours enjoyment, plus a coffee and scone of course!

One of the best, Bodnant Gardens, is quite close, so on a lovely sumnny afternoon in autumn 2021 off we went.

One of my favourite places at Bodnant is the lily pond in front of the main house, so while we were there I took the opportunity to capture these images of the lily pads and flowers, basking the in afternoon sun.
